meeting of the Council His Excellency Mr. Claud Jevern, who was then administering the Goverment of liong Kong, the late Professor G.P. Jordan Pre-Vice Chancellor, the lion. Mr. H.5. Pollock, the Hon. the late Mr. Lau Chu Pak, the llon. the late Mr. Ho Pook, ur. D.V. kokery (heting Principal Civil Medical Officer), Mr. E. Ralphs (Director of sucation), Frofesuor H.Q. Sarle, Professor A.Q. sarren, Professor J.D. sright, and Mr. N.T. Hackintosh who was then Registrar.

The resolution of the Council which I have just quoted came before the denate on the 30th September, 1919, and that body passed the following resolution

"The Senate understanding that . Parker has already been offered and has definitely accepted the appointment to the Chair of Pathology i8 therefore of opinion that it can not do other wise than confirm its recommendation of Dr. Parker for the appointment or Professor of Pathology »

At the meeting of the university Council which was held on the 12th December 1919 "Correspondence was read from the London Committee to the following affect:- that ir. Parker has resigned the Chair of Pathology and that ir. ang has been appointed in his place and will leave England on the 1st March."

It will appear from the above recital that the late Professor C.Y.Wong was a pathologist and nut a gynaecologiat and that he was a Professor in this university from 1980 unt11 his death in December laat.

I an unable to give you the inner history under- lying the resolutions of the Council and senate. Dr. 0.1.sang refers to the University having telagraphed to siinburgh aak.... ing for a recommendation, and to the University having replied, when Dr. C.Y.Wang's name was put forward "that they did not wish to have him because he was a Chinese, # As I have already pointed out, the Council is under the provisions of the Uni- versity Grdinance (see statute 8.4) the only hiversity body
